Trees
Hey, Tree you in all your splendid glory
with your arms encompassing everything around it
Forever looking upto the skies
Bestowing shade to people underneath
with a bend because you are laden with fruit
Oh! look at those squirrels running in the branches,
not a care in the world
How can you be so benevolent
when everyone around you seems to think you are no good,
cuts you down with no thought about you being alive
How will we live when you are not around
not around to give us shade, shelter, food and wood.
I hope one day humans will understand that without you they are nothing
not even capable of living.

Save Okhla Bird Sanctuary
Is building more flyovers considered progress?
or
Is it having concrete all around you?
or
Is it battling with water and electricity woes during the summers?
We seem to think so.In the wake of global warming , instead of planting trees we are cutting them down.
Okhla bird park, just minutes away from Noida just under DND Flyway is home to over 400 species of birds and more than a 1000 species of migratory birds. It home to home more birds than the Bharatpur bird sanctuary. Cutting down trees, auctioning out land around it for mixed use purposes is bound to have a negative effect on the population of birds. Already the number of birds has decreased.
Moreover the land around it houses a lot of different ecological systems such as marshes, flood plains,grasslands and a variety of trees. If we are to concertize it ,it will mean a further drop in the ground water table which will add to our existing water problems.
Earlier, also in 2004 a petition was filed regarding illegal construction around it and the supreme court ordered all the authorities to stop the construction.
It is in our own best interests to save the bird sanctuary and the land around it.
Remember that the bird is not just home to the birds but also something which makes this place great.
It is in our hands to save it now.
